  • Sketch writers cannot be sued for defamation either for reporting defamatory statements or for the contents of their sketches provided their reports are objectively “fair and balanced”.

  • Sketch writers are entitled to elect what they believe to be the most salient aspects of the parliamentary debate.

  • No malice in this case (NB plaintiff here was NOT MP / Lords but someone criticised in the debate by a Lord)
