Lemon v United Kingdom [1983] 5 EHRR 123

Country:
United Kingdom
  • The Commission found that the laws on blasphemous libel could be said to have fulfilled the necessary requirements for limiting the right of freedom of expression, and that the appellant hadn’t been discriminated against in being charged with blasphemous libel.

  • Therefore his appeal was dismissed.

NB Poulter

  • Points out that the commission were not saying that the libel was not discriminatory, but merely that the appellants hadn’t suffered discrimination on account of it.
